Wine Proficiency Testing Scheme
Laboratories play an important role in the monitoring of wine production at all stages of wine making, including: grape ripening, must adjustment, fermentation, stabilization and maturation. Analytical testing of grapes and wine complements the art of winemaking by assisting with:
-
Quality control in ripening, processing and aging of grapes & wines
-
Spoilage reduction
-
Process improvement
-
Blending precision
-
Export certification
-
Regulatory requirements
Wine quality and in particular chemical and physical analysis is generally dependent on a winery’s own winemaking staff and, in some instances, that of independent testing laboratories. The reliability of these results can be difficult to assess in-house, and participation in an Inter-Laboratory Comparison Programme (ILCP) can alert you to potential problems, and assist you to gauge your performance against other laboratories.
