Campylobacter Proficiency Testing Scheme

Campylobacter is now recognized as one of the main causes of bacterial food borne diseases in many developed countries. Laboratories play an important role in the monitoring of the microbiological quality of our food to ensure it is wholesome and safe to eat.

Global Proficiency offers a Campylobacter Proficiency Testing Scheme for laboratories offering routine analytical testing of raw material and finished products.

Campylobacter Background Information

Campylobacter is a bacterial microorganism that causes the gastro-intestinal disease campylobacteriosis when it lodges in the walls of a person’s intestine. Symptoms usually last two to five days, and include muscle pain, headache and fever, followed by diarrhoea, abdominal pain and nausea.
Routine analytical testing of raw material and finished products are an integral part of verification activities for food manufacturing and processing operations. They provide critical information supporting:
  • Hygienic status and process controls
  • Supplier assurance
  • Process improvement
  • Market access
  • Compliance with operator and regulatory requirements
