Vibrio parahaemolyticus Background Information
Vibrionaceae are considered by many to be the leading cause of gastroenteritis in many western nations, including the USA, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, where Vibrio parahaemolyticus causes 50% of all gastroenteritis cases. All cases of gastroenteritis caused by Vibrio parahaemolyticus have been attributed to marine foods, and are particularly associated with raw or undercooked seafoods.
Vibrio parahaemolyticus Schedule
Samples are dispatched in April and August. Participants are given up to two weeks to examine the samples and return results.

Vibrio parahaemolyticus Sample Description
Samples are offered as a four-sample set (freeze-dried vials) incorporating a combination of organisms within the samples. Challenges for differentiating Vibrio parahaemolyticus from other Vibrio species such as Vibrio cholerae and Vibrio vulnificus as well as the presence of other contaminant organisms are included in the sample set.
